Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office invite you to attend Arabic Calligraphy and Decorative Writing at dlr Lexicon Gallery on Saturday 24 September 2022 from 11:00 – 12:30.
Join artist Diaa Lagan for this introduction to the history of Arabic Calligraphy through its different scripts, about the Thuluth Script and how to pronounce some of the Arabic letters. Practice writing three letters and joining them together to form a word.
Participants will be introduced to calligraphy practice art and to the concept of decorative writing. Learn and practice techniques of forming letters and shaping a calligraphic design using a bamboo quill and tracing paper, then tracing a calligraphy design.
All materials will be provided for the workshop on the day.

About this artist
Diaa Lagan is a multidisciplinary artist originally from originally from Middle East. Through sculptural installations and intimate paintings, he explores the complexities and contradictions that he has experienced as a Middle Eastern immigrant to the Western world. He holds a BA degree in Fine art (sculpture) and MA in Art studies.
He had an art residency in the Burren college of Art, later in 2021 he was awarded a fellowship in IADT as artist and tutor of Calligraphy workshop with art students. He participated in different group shows recently in the LAB Gallery Jan 2022 and joined VAI since 2020.
