Computing education research (CER) is a field of study dedicated to investigating and improving the teaching and learning of computer science and related disciplines. It encompasses a range of topics, including curriculum development, instructional methods, assessment strategies, and the impact of various interventions on student outcomes. CER aims to understand how students acquire computational thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and programming expertise. Researchers in this field explore the effectiveness of different pedagogical approaches, the influence of educational technologies, and the factors that contribute to student success in computing courses. By identifying best practices and addressing challenges in computing education, CER plays a crucial role in shaping educational policies, informing instructional practices, and contributing to the continuous evolution of computer science education at various levels, from K-12 to higher education.
The United Kingdom and Ireland Computing Education Research conference (UKICER) takes place on Thursday 1st of September 2022 and Friday 2nd of September 2022, in TU Dublin, on the Tallaght campus.
The conference features two workshops, a doctorial consortium, 10 posters and 10 research papers.
This year’s keynote is Dr Sue Sentence (Director of the Raspberry Pi Computing Education Research Centre at the University of Cambridge, UK and Chief Learning Officer at the Raspberry Pi Foundation) where Sue will present her keynote titled: “Who’s using my research? Influencing the impact of computing education research on practice.”. More information on this keynote can be found here.
