Funding of over €7,000 has been approved for the Vifax don Ghaeilge initiative again this year for the fifth consecutive year. Vifax don Ghaeilge is an aid for Irish language teachers and learners which is run by Maynooth University and it is available seven days a week. It consists of videos and snippets as well as lessons based on Nuacht TG4 which are put up on Maynooth University’s website every week.
It is available online both nationally and internationally and according to statistics gathered by Lárionad na Gaeilge there are a great number of people from the United States of America and the United Kingdom using the system. For the last six months an increase of 64% has occurred in the number of users due to the emphasis on learning online.
This project is receiving co-funding from COCG Comhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta.
Announcing the grant today, Minister of State Chambers said,
“I am honoured that my Department is able to support this initiative again this year and it’s more important than ever that such an aid is available online while we are going through a challenging time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This resource is an attempt to serve Irish society and people around the world who have an interest in learning the language again and improving their Irish, and best of all they are able to use this at anytime of the day which suits them.”
