As part of the Institute of Public Administration’s ongoing commitment to develop and enhance capacity and capability for individuals and organisations, the Institute has announced the commencement of its CIPFA accredited professional programme in public financial management, the Certificate in International Public Financial Management.
The Certificate programme, commencing on 30th August 2021 will be delivered online and in addition to live streamed lectures and direct tutor support, participants will have access to a range of additional and valuable resources and videos, all with the aim of building and enriching knowledge, skills and competencies in financial management and accounting.
We all recognise the critical importance of financial management as part of good governance arrangements. Good financial management systems deliver consistent, meaningful and understandable data which is reported with appropriate frequency to support good decision-making. Similarly good financial administration is a key part of good internal controls, ensuring that financial transactions are legal, properly incurred and correctly accounted for.
The qualifications in International Public Financial Management are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) and the IPA has gained approved college status to deliver this much sought after qualification. Module content includes ethics, financial reporting principles, financial statements, management information, costing, budgeting and other key topics.
The IPA delivers the Certificate programme with modules on Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. The online modules, which include twelve days online classes, are scheduled at intervals from August to November 2021. The programme will be of specific interest to those looking to build and enhance financial skills and competencies across all sectors of the public service and particularly in financial governance areas so that colleagues and staff engaging with financial aspects are comfortable in assessing and scrutinising financial reports and other information.
To further support participants with preparation for an online assessment, there will be access to practice tests, multiple-choice questions and also tutor availability as well as revision sessions and we are committed to ensure that all our IPA students are successful and achieve the award of this Certificate in International Public Financial Management. Applications are now being accepted.
