The Innovative Student Engineer of the Year Award recognises and awards the best projects by third level engineering students that showcases innovation, sustainability and commercial potential.

Engineers Ireland are celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Siemens Innovative Student Engineer of the Year Award this year. 

You can now submit your entry below.

Who can enter?

  1. Standard application criteria will be that the applicant(s) are a student member of Engineers Ireland at time of application and either:
  • Enrolled on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate master engineering programme
  • 2024 graduate of an engineering programme undergraduate or postgraduate masters
  1. The project submitted must have been completed during the academic year 2023/24.
  2. We welcome projects from all years, institutions and engineering degrees in Ireland.
  3. More than one project can be submitted from the same institution but not by the same individual.

What are the criterias?

The project must be submitted in written essay format (maximum 12 pages) and comply with the assessment criteria listed below.

The project submission must demonstrate the following criteria:

  • Technical & Design
  • Innovation & Technology
  • Commerciality
  • Sustainability

Closing date for submissions is Sunday, 29 September.

The Awards

The competition final takes place in Engineers Ireland Head Office (date TBC). The finalist will have the opportunity to give a presentation and discuss their project with a panel of judges and answer any questions.
