If you’d like to return to education but are worried that you won’t have the time to attend classes, distance learning may be the answer for you. The Open College is Ireland’s largest provider of courses and QQI awards (formerly FETAC) in distance learning and e-learning.

Flexible learning and a variety of options

The Open College delivers flexible programmes and education choices. Their courses use a number of delivery methods, including distance learning and e-learning as well as classroom based courses.

The College has over 90 QQI Levels 5 & 6 distance e-learning component Certificates and Major Award programmes. Course covered include:

  • Healthcare
  • Childcare
  • Business and Finance
  • Journalism and Writing
  • Special Needs Assisting (SNA)
  • Management
  • Training and Delivery – Train the Trainer
  • Digital Media
  • Psychology
  • Law
  • Montessori Teaching
  • Sports and Exercise

The Open College offer awards which are part of the Irish National Framework of Qualifications. As a result, employers both nationally and internationally recognise their QQI qualifications. Furthermore, some awards are now mandatory requirements in Irish sectors like Childcare and Healthcare.

The pros of distance learning

There are a number of distinct advantages to distance learning and e-learning. Here are just a few of them!

  • Firstly, you don’t need to be on a campus or in a classroom. If you have family responsibilities, or are far from a city, distance learning may suit you better.
  • There also no commuting!
  • You can get new qualifications without leaving your job.
  • You are studying at home, but you’re not studying alone. Distance learning makes use of digital technology as well as online interactions.
  • Learn at your own pace.
  • Distance learning is also accessible for people with limited mobility.
  • Finally, you can live anywhere to study a distance learning course.
