Dundalk Institute of Technology’s (DkIT) School of Engineering recently held a barrier breaking event focusing on women in engineering as part of Engineers Ireland’s STEP Week.

DkIT  invited almost 100 female secondary school students, from TY, 5th and 6th year who have selected engineering-compatible subjects to this on-campus event. Currently only 12% of those employed in engineering are female.

The idea of this event was to allow for role model female professional engineers, academics, and recent graduates to engage with the invited students and to share their educational and career journeys.

On the day an exhibition of engineering projects was on display and the event also hosted discussion groups with female engineers from different fields of engineering.
