Certificate in Nursing Health Assessment for Persons with an Intellectual Disability
The aim of the programme is to develop and enhance nurses’ knowledge and skills to implement clinical interventions in supporting the complex health needs of persons with an intellectual disability. This programme will help the student to develop and advance their clinical skills to competently assess and manage prevalent health conditions among people with an Intellectual Disability within the context of their own practice setting utilising a rights based approach to care. Indicative content includes theoretical and skill based sessions on cardio vascular/ respiratory/ gastro- intestinal / endocrine, tissue viability, and continence care. Thus, they can provide timely, optimal, collaborative and compassionate care to enhance the person’s outcomes and improve their quality of life.
