Course Description
Computer Services Management
This course is designed to provide the student with the skills, knowledge and competence needed to pursue a career as an information technology support supervisory or as an IT support specialist. The aim of this programme is to produce graduates capable of working as professionals in a support capacity and with some potential to lead activities across a variety of sectors using information technology systems of varying degrees of complexity.
The objectives of the programme are to:
Provide graduates with core information technology knowledge and skills appropriate to level 7 in the National Framework of Qualifications;
Equip graduates with habits of learning, understanding and structured, critical and lateral thinking;
Provide graduates with the ability to adapt to different work and social environments which would provide for full professional career development;
give graduates an understanding of the role of information technology applications across a broad spectrum of applications;
Produce graduates that have knowledge and experience of the application of information technology in a variety of settings and are capable of fulfilling the support requirements for users of information technology in enterprise.

Entry Requirements | Applicants holding a higher certificate (NFQ level 6) or equivalent, at pass or higher level, will be considered for entry onto this programme. Places are awarded on an order-of-merit basis and preferences may be given to holders of a directly relevant qualification from IT Tralee. Candidates who have relevant work experience in addition to holding a pass certificate will be given due recognition for their relevant work experience. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) The Institute operates a policy that allows for the recognition of prior learning, both formal and informal. Informal and experiential learning includes non-accredited education, work based training and relevant life/work experience. This learning is assessed and this assessment may lead to academic credits, exemption from subjects on intended course of study or places on particular courses of study. Applicants are required to compile a portfolio of evidence demonstrating how they have achieved the learning outcomes of a particular module within a programme or how they meet the entry requirements of a programme of study. The Institute is committed to providing support and assistance to guide the learner through the RPL application and/or in compiling the portfolio. Applications for RPL for module exemptions are dealt with on an individual basis once a student has registered on a particular course. |
