Course Description
Computing - ICT Skills Conversion
The Higher Diploma in Science in Computing is designed for graduates of non-computing disciplines. It equips successful participants with a range of core IT skills, which open career routes in the vibrant Information Technology (IT) sector. This programme has two streams, namely:
Systems and IT Services
Software Development for Games and Apps.
Year 1 modules are shared by both streams. Year 2 modules differentiate the two streams and allow participants to specialise in a manner that develops their interests and career aspirations. A three month work placement concludes Year 2 of both streams.
What will I be able to do when I finish the programme?
Systems and IT Services Stream Organisations with IT departments are many and varied, so graduates of this stream may find suitable career opportunities in an SME, a government department, or multinational corporation. There are many career paths available to graduates of this stream including careers as Web Developers, Network Administrators and IT Consultants.
Software Development for Games and Apps Stream
The games industry is a multi-billion euro industry and it is expected to increase even more over the next few years. There are excellent employment opportunities for Computer Game Programmers to find work with game publishers or game development studios at home and abroad. Students will also be able to fulfil any roles normally filled by graduates of Computing or Software Engineering degrees if they so wish.
