Overview
This practical programme is designed for professionals who wish to acquire the skills and knowledge required to work efficiently and effectively in a modern office environment. It offers instruction in office management and administration functions, paying particular attention to the use of Information Technology applications that are key to efficient office management.

Aims
Each module on this programme lays down fundamental principles designed to teach participants the essentials of effective office management and administration. The course focuses on six key areas of office administration allowing students to gain the skills and tools to manage an office successfully.

Each student will be provided with:

Assessment
As the primary objective of this programme is to provide students with the practical skills necessary to work in an administration role in a modern office, there will be a strong focus on in-class exercises to develop those skills. Course Content
- Office Communication Skills: This module provides an overview of the types of skills required to run and administer a busy office environment. Topics covered in this module include communication skills, use of networked communication applications, planning skills, understanding budgets and purchasing, project planning, and team working.
- Information Technology Applications: This module will equip learners with practical digital skills. Learners will gain an understanding of collaborative technologies in the workplace. They will apply best practice for creating documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Human Resource Management: This module will provide the student an insight into HRM and the role HRM plays in an organisation. The module presents current trends in the field and provides the students with the foundational tools for Human Resource Management
- Project Management: This module provides an overview of the types of skills required to run and administer a busy office environment. Topics covered in this module include project management and planning skills, understanding budgets and purchasing.
- Office Administration skills: This module covers practical skills required by all those working in a modern office environment and is complimentary, and closely related, to the Office Communication Skills module. Topics covered include file management and sharing, email management, books of first entry, accounts payable and receivable and diary management, planning and scheduling.
- Marketing and Digital Media management: This module explores the skills and knowledge necessary for the planning and management of effective marketing in the workplace. The basic principles are taught and an advanced understanding is fostered through the use of case studies and practical examples. The key role of this module is to provide an introduction to many of the techniques employed by marketers to achieve business success.
Structure
The Diploma in Office Administration and Technologies is offered as a part-time programme over one academic year. Students will engage with weekly topic areas through short, faculty led presentations, lab work and guided discussion that will be reinforced by case studies and group work. Moodle will be used to facilitate student engagement with resources, as well as provide an interactive space for learners. The course will focus on six key areas that are foundational to manage an office and its administration efficiently. Additionally, students will acquire practical experience with Information Technology applications that are crucial in modern office management.

On completion of the programme students will have the knowledge and skills required to work in a variety of business and administrative roles. The diversity of the programme can also enhance the career profile of non-business candidates.
Student Profile
Typical students do not need prior qualifications or experience in advance of commencing the course and come from various backgrounds. This programme is aimed at those looking to gain an understanding of basic office management processes and functions. There will be an enhanced focus on developing IT skills as these skills are a basic requirement for the aspiring office manager or those operating in a supporting role. This programme is also suited to the students who are interested in further study.

The fee for this Diploma is €2,000 .This is inclusive of tuition, registration, exam fees and DBS library membership.
