The BA in Early Childhood Practice is a level 7, 180 credit programme jointly delivered over four semesters by both the Department of Social Sciences at the Institute of Technology, Tralee and the Faculty of Education at Mary Immaculate College (MIC), Limerick. graduates will be conferred with a University of Limerick Level 7 Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Practice. The programme has been designed specifically to up-skill staff currently working in the Early Childhood Care and Education sector who have a qualification at FET/QQI level 6 or equivalent.

Course Duration | The programme will run over four semesters. Alternate semesters will be delivered by the Department of Social Sciences at the IT Tralee and the Faculty of Education, MIC, Limerick, commencing in September at the IT Tralee. The programme will be delivered in a blended format with the greater part of the programme being delivered through an on-line/distance learning format. Modules will comprise of independent on-line study, on-line tutorials as well as face-to-face delivery. Face-to-face delivery will be blocked over a number of days per month and at the weekends to accommodate applicants who are in full-time employment. |

Entry Requirements | Applicants should hold a FET/QQI level 6 award or equivalent and should be working in the early childhood care and education sector. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) The Institute operates a policy that allows for the recognition of prior learning, both formal and informal. Informal and experiential learning includes non-accredited education, work based training and relevant life/work experience. This learning is assessed and this assessment may lead to academic credits, exemption from subjects on intended course of study or places on particular courses of study. Applicants are required to compile a portfolio of evidence demonstrating how they have achieved the learning outcomes of a particular module within a programme or how they meet the entry requirements of a programme of study. The Institute is committed to providing support and assistance to guide the learner through the RPL application and/or in compiling the portfolio. Applications for RPL for module exemptions are dealt with on an individual basis once a student has registered on a particular course. |
