Intermediate Irish
This Intermediate Irish course is suitable for individuals who have a grasp of Irish and want to learn the rules of usage. Questions on any aspect of the language are encouraged.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
• Pronunciation – This will be according
to the guide in Foclóir Póca, called a
Lárchanúint (Middle Dialect).
• Instinct Phrases – Many phrases such
as an bhfuil a fhios agat?; gabh mo
leithscéal; mar sin, dá bhrí sin, dá bharr
sin; níl … ach; etc.
• Verbs and their partners – Learn the
pairings of verbs and prepostions
to avoid awkward translations from
Béarla.
• Using the t-fix, h-fix, eclipsis, and
lenition – When to use any of these
will be discussed and demystified.
• The Copula – You will discover the
many ways that this simple verb can
be used despite its avoidance by many
speakers.
• Feminine and Masculine Nouns –
Tricks to spot which is which, and how
their gender affects the adjcetives
describing them.
• Making New Words – This will be the
topic of the last class. You will learn
the method of coining new words,
using Irish roots.
