Course Description
Security Studies and Criminology
This Security Studies with Criminology Course at DCFE will provide you with a strong foundation in the skills necessary to pursue a career in the private security industry and in Retail Security as either Door Security or Static Guarding in both Ireland and abroad or progress to Third level.
The course provides students with an introduction to the different sectors within the security industry in Ireland.
Throughout their period of training, students complete work placements with recognised security companies at
music concerts, sporting events and other public events.
This course is also of relevance to students who are interested in a career in An Garda Síochána, the Defense
Forces, Prison Service or Emergency Services. You will obtain a grounding in the various legal aspects of security.
Successful achievement of the security modules will enable you to meet part of the requirements for a security license as required under the Private Security Services Act. You will also qualify as a First Aid Responder (FAR) which is awarded by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC).

Carear Path | Graduates who successfully complete the security modules can use their results as part of their application for a security license which is a requirement for employment as a security officer. Graduates are also eligible to apply through the CAO Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one on a range of Level 7 and Level 8 programmes including Business and Legal Studies in a variety of third level universities.
