Special Needs Assisting
For people who wish to pursue a career in working with children with special needs as an assistant within an educational setting. The Special Needs Assisting Course aims to:
• Ensure adequate training of the Special Needs Assistant.
• Promote understanding of role of Special Needs Assistant in the classroom.
• Equip the Special Needs Assistant with the necessary skills and knowledge for a rewarding career.
Work Experience: Candidates will have to complete at least 30 hours working with the individuals with Special Needs under the age of 18 in an educational setting, or similar during the course. This work experience may be of a paid or voluntary nature. Entry Requirements: Candidates who do not currently work in this area must be prepared to undertake the work experience outlined above. Junior Certificate level is usually required including English, Irish and Maths. All learners must be fluent English speakers. This may lead to a major award in Early Childhood Care and Education Code 5M2009
